Controversial as it may be, many Muslims have found a way to cope with hunger during the Ramadan with diet patches.  The use of diet patches or weight loss patches does not sit well with Saudi religious scholars.  They state that there needs to be more research before there can be an Islamic stance on the issue.  That research would include testing to see if in fact these diet patches provide nutrition to the wearer which would indicate that they are not allowed for fasting Muslims.  Many diet patches contain an herbal property that dissolves slowly into the skin, speeding up metabolism and controlling appetites.  The purpose of fasting during Ramadan is to strengthen the will power of a Muslim, rise to life's challenges, learn to control their urges, and test their patience.  The argument also points out that hunger will remind a person how poor people feel and will urge a Muslim to help the poor.  Some feel strongly that fasting is a way to discipline the body and people using diet patches are doing that as well, therefore, from that viewpoint, there is not an objection to diet patches or weight loss patches during this time.  Also, for those who are weak physically, the diet patches help support them during fasting hours.  This is going to be an interesting trend to follow as time goes on.
